Your Anxiety and How Tapping Can Help Reduce It
Let me ask you something: Do you feel anxious around the Coronavirus pandemic? How about before a dental visit or starting something new? Have you gotten the jitters before speaking in front of a large group or sweaty palms when thinking about the future?
These are common reactions when faced with something that's scary like a virus or unfamiliar and it doesn't necessarily mean that anything is wrong. So even if you’re freaking out a little right now, know that it’s normal and you are not alone.
I am recommending in this article that you learn about a powerful technique called Tapping which is amazingly effective to rid yourself of most anxiety initiated by the Coronavirus. However, some people are now suffering from a more severe form of anxiety that can cause serious physical symptoms. And if this is the case, you should see a doctor.
Here are some of the common symptoms of anxiety and panic disorder. Hopefully you don’t have any of these symptoms because of the pandemic, but realize that if you do, it’s okay:
1. You develop an uncontrollable fear of public places or possible germs on furniture or door knobs.
2. You have an inability to concentrate. For this to be considered a true anxiety disorder it must be consistent behavior, because all of us can’t concentrate from time to time, right?
3. You exhibit nervous behaviors, such as walking around the same area over and over again or twitching your fingers or toes repetitively..
4. You get a feeling of doom or that something will happen to you, such as catching the virus, a heart attack, or even death.
5. You have numbness in your hands, fingers, toes, and legs or feeling like you can't stand.
6. You feel your heart is racing and you can't breathe correctly. (Anxiety this severe might call for professional help.)
7. You have trouble swallowing or unusual dry mouth episodes.
8. You might start to have a fear of people around you and the desire to be alone..
9. Your normal activities have become overwhelming to you.
If you are suffering intensely from some or many of the symptoms above, you should most likely seek help from a medical professional. You should get the medical and psychological treatment that can put you back on the road to peace, health and happiness.
But if your symptoms are not severe or you would like to try something alternative before or while seeking medical assistance, let me make some suggestions. Last week, we talked about mindfulness as a powerful tool to have in your wellness arsenal. Mindfulness, a form of meditation, can be very helpful for mild anxiety but can be a little difficult where your feelings are really bothersome or intense. I suggest that you give a regular mindfulness practice a shot in these difficult times. But something I believe is more powerful for anxiety issues than using mindfulness is meridian tapping (often called just tapping or EFT). While I am not a doctor and can’t say that this cure is the right one for you, I recommend that you do some meridian tapping on the issues that are cause you anxiety and see if they don’t go away after a tapping session If tapping doesn’t get you the results you seek, definitely go see a doctor or a psychotherapist.
Tapping on the meridians is based in traditional Chinese medicine. Meridians are channels that form a network in the body, through which qi (vital energy) flows. On the physical side blocked qi causes pain and illness. On the mental side, blocked qi can cause fear, panic or worry. In Chinese medicine, the flow of qi is restored by using pressure, needles, suction, or heat at hundreds of specific points along the meridians. Tapping is based on tapping on a smaller number of the body’s major meridian points to restore the flow of qi.
Here are the points:
The process of tapping is more than I can explain fully here. The idea is to tap with your fingertips of one or both hands 5 to 7 times on the tapping points shown here going from top to bottom while feeling (and not avoiding) your anxiety. For more information about tapping and how it can help you with anxiety, please watch the video related to this article or you may visit the websites eftuniverse.com, thrivingnow.com, thetappingsolution.com or visit youtube.com for hundreds of EFT videos on stress and anxiety reduction. Next week I will go more into the specifics of tapping and how you can apply it for yourself.
