How Can Affirmations Boost Your Mood?
It may seem like non-scientific optimism, but according to many experts (and my own personal experience), working regularly with affirmations can actually have an enormously positive impact on your mood, self-esteem, and overall sense of wellbeing (including less stress). When we combine them with tapping, their power increases even more.
You may ask: Can repeating seemingly simple positive phrases transform your life? What if I don’t believe them?
What Are Affirmations?
Affirmations are short, positive statements and sentences that as you repeat them can help you to notice negative and self-sabotaging thoughts that are hanging around in your energy field, and then challenge and overcome them.
When affirmations are repeated often and with feelings, like daily for 21 days, for example, they can truly have a positive impact on your life and wellbeing.
In many ways, using affirmations is the same as training a specific muscle when you are working out - you are using a repetitive exercise to improve your mind and general outlook.
The repetition of positive mental statements can actually reprogram our thinking patterns in our subconscious mind, and, over time, we will think, act, and see the world differently.
According to a growing body of evidence, there are a number of areas that active and regular use of affirmations can help in, including work and career. It is time to start using them a little every day to reap the benefits.
Some of the main benefits include:
1. Improved work performance. It has been repeatedly shown that affirmations can help to strengthen your performance at work.
● For example, taking a few minutes before a big meeting to affirm your strengths can calm your nerves and help you feel more confident. This, in turn, favors a more successful outcome.
2. Reduce stress. Repeating affirmations can also help to reduce the impact and effects of stress, offering benefits for your physical and psychological wellbeing.
3. Strengthen self-esteem. There are a number of cases of affirmations being used to successfully treat cases of depression, low self-esteem, anxiety and more.
● There is also evidence that affirmations can encourage us to take better care of our health. The more you value yourself through affirming yourself, the more you will care for yourself.
How Can You Use Affirmations?
Incorporating affirmations into your daily life is easy!
They can be used in a number of different scenarios to make a positive change in your life, including:
1. Thrive during big presentations. Rather than dread your next sales call, use affirmations to help you feel cool, calm, and in control.
2. Control negative feelings. Don’t let your emotions get the better of you. When you start to feel even a little negative, start affirming and feel the shift.
● Using positive affirmations can help you to reframe seemingly negative situations and find practical solutions.
3. Improve self-esteem and self-confidence. Use positive affirmations to remind yourself of all your excellent points and that you can do it.
● If you repeat your affirmations often enough, you will truly start to believe them.
4. Overcome a bad habit. You can also use affirmations to remind yourself not to do something and to do something else instead, and this can be useful in nixing bad or unhelpful habits.
5. Focus on your important goals. Once you’ve identified the goals and targets that you aspire to achieve, you can create affirmative statements to keep your mind focused and motivated on those goals, increasing your chance of success.
6. Make changes. Combine affirmations with visualizations to picture and write about the changes you want to see.
● Repeat your affirmations until you make the change you are craving.
In order to help affirmations work for you, it’s important to ensure that you are repeating them regularly with gusto. The magic is in the repetition together with the enthusiasm.
It’s also a good idea to write down your affirmations and leave them somewhere you can easily see. This makes it easy to remind yourself of them the moment you start to experience negative or intrusive thoughts.
You can start today by creating a few simple affirmations that you can say regularly. Or you can go on Youtube or Spotify and find dozens of affirmation audios and videos that you speak along with. One of my favorites that I have been listening to daily is by Bob Baker and is called “5 Minute Start Your Day Meditation”. You can find it here: https://youtu.be/mx3K75yMTR4
