3 Self-Defeating Behavior for Business Owners to Recognize and Overcome

As business owners, we tend to think that most of the challenges in our business come from around us - a controlling client,  a complaining commenter or a podcast gone bad - but it is much harder to acknowledge the truth of the matter: our bigger challenge is that we are often our own worst enemies. Below I have listed three common types of self-defeating behavior. The best way I have found to stop these self-defeating behavior and other self sabotage is with EFT Tapping and Affirmations.  And yes, there are many other ways to deal with self-defeating behavior - the important thing is to actually find an effective way which you will USE.

Here are your important objectives:

#1: Stop Trying to Please Everyone. You cannot make everyone happy all of the time. Rushing around and trying to make other people, like your biggest customer or your fans on Insta, happy is a huge cause of self-defeating behavior. Trying to make everyone happy all the time can cost you your health and peace of mind.  The cause of this endless pleasing behavior is most often fear, and you can shift your mindset with tapping, affirmations or some form of subconscious work.  The first step is to be conscious of when you are acting to please. When you recognize your are doing it, shift your focus to feelings of self-acceptance and forgiveness.

#2: Accept Imperfection. If you seek perfection, you will never find completion. Let’s face it - Better Done than Perfect! Can you imagine great artists like Michelangelo continuing to work and work on the Sistine Chapel after it was awesome, because it wasn’t exactly the way he wanted it? Nothing would ever get done! Imperfection is part of being human, and most of the time, you’re the only one who will notice your mistakes anyway.  It’s time to make it okay to be less than perfect.  Tapping and affirmations are my favorite ways to deal with this “need” which also stems from fear of what other people will think.

#3: Do it Afraid. Fear is something that holds most people back from living a higher purpose. You can’t fly if you don’t jump, and you could easily convince yourself not to jump if you’re afraid. Fear doesn’t necessarily have to be a direct sense of trepidation. It might be disguised as laziness or avoidance or good old procrastination. Face the fear, do a little releasing.

So what are you willing to do to take better charge of your life and work?  Notice if you suffer from any of those three behaviors and decide to change.  You can learn about tapping on my site at: activateyourgreatness.com/tapping or take a deeper dive on my youtube channel: Tapping with Coach Joe on Youtube.
